About the Awards

The Lexington Unsung Hero Awards celebrates the individuals who weave together the fabric of our city, often working tirelessly behind the scenes without seeking recognition. They embody the true spirit of community service.

In a time when division and distrust seem so present in our civic life, these awards shine a light on the better angels amongst us, honoring the value and necessity of public, civil, and community service.

This year, we will honor eight Lexington residents who represent distinct and important aspects of public and civil service. From the essential heroes that keep our communities running to the community heroes that freely give of themselves to others, we know that this year’s awardees will serve as an inspiration for others and demonstrate the importance of strong civic health.

History

Lexington Unsung Hero Awards originated as a project from Commerce Lexington’s Leadership Lexington Class of 2023. A team of 13 community members who represented a variety of industries and backgrounds came together to highlight and commemorate excellence in the public sector of the Lexington community.

After a successful inaugural event, the Leadership Lexington project team handed the event over to CivicLex . CivicLex is a nonprofit focused on building a stronger, more vibrant culture of civic health in Lexington.

The Lexington Unsung Hero Advisory Committee is comprised of founding project members and CivicLex Governance Board members.
